Shop Green

When you shop green, you vote with your dollars for the kind of healthy food choices you want everyone to have available in your community.  No matter where you live, you can make a difference by being aware of the impacts these seven issues have on your health, your local economy, and the environment.  Then set your priorities, and enjoy the rewards of healthy eating.

Local Food
Plugging into your local food system lets you save money, support family farms, eat healthier, fresher food, and reduce global warming.

Organics
Choosing organics whenever you can is a wise move for your personal health. And it is a key to a sustainable future for us all.

Shop Fair Trade
Can't shop locally? Think globally and shop fair trade! It's like an international farmer's market.

Family Farms
Small-scale agriculture (mostly family farms, and some co-ops) is becoming rare.  Your support at the market can ensure its survival, along with greater biodiversity and an increasing supply of organic produce and humane-raised meat, eggs and dairy.

Safe Seafood
Safe seafood includes many types of fish, from wild salmon to farmed oysters, that are good for our health without endangering our ecosystems.

Happy Animals
Is eating meat ethical?  Whatever your perspective on this issue, the health and ecological concerns about factory farming are worth being aware of.  Turns out that animals humanely raised for meat, eggs or milk can be a key element to sustainable agriculture.

Dining Out
When you cook at home, you make all the decisions about ingredients yourself and can set a green table for your family and guests.  Dining out is trickier; but some guides and guidelines can help you enjoy the experience while supporting the slow food movement.
